The Amazing Entertainment Center… So far.

I left you guys hanging… In fact. I left you hanging on a lot of things for over a good month now. Sorry. You would think I have a herd of children, a house that’s too big to keep up with all the cleaning, and a job that is in my home and destroys said home on a daily basis.

Oh wait. You’d be right. On top of all that, the cord that connects my computer to my external hard drive is loose, or something, because it connects for a few seconds than disconnects, and it goes back and forth. So I had to go to Best Buy and get a new cord and now I have access to all my pictures again! For more than 10 seconds at a time :)

And lastly, to be honest. I have just been in a funk. I was so motivated to get shit done back in January and February; then my husband left for England; I did a lot of work around here… he came home, wasn’t too thrilled or impressed… and it killed my motivation. Ugh. And I’m at a standstill with most my projects because I need his help now, but it takes a long while to get him on that.

But when it comes to these scenarios, I think my Aunt Pam nailed it on the head. For her birthdays and Valentine’s Day, all she asks of my handsome Uncle Scott is to finish a honey-do list. Dude! Is that not the most brilliant idea you have ever heard????? Personally, I think she is one smart lady… A lot of people often think “What would Jesus do?”. My motto? What would Aunt Pam do? Much better question. And I usually like the answers that follows it.

Anyway!

I left you with this post. I showed you the samples of what I came up with:

IMG_6485

Ahhhhhh… that’s a beaut right there.

While the hubs was away, I did manage to finish part of the entertainment center, and my awesome cousin painted one of my walls in Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Gray {but in Behr’s paint- it’s amazing paint!}. I helped a tad bit.

And the wall color is perfect.

She helps me paint all my walls, and always writes a note starting out… isn’t she precious! I especially love the giant MAR {& tiny}issa. MARissa. Ha! Thanks Bethy & love you!

It makes everything on that wall pop! The windows and door suddenly look more white {and they are far from white… they weren’t even white when we moved in!}

Last 12 Months - 3472

I’m also excited to put up some glam decor in the area between the entertainment center and window… It’s really going to look amazing. I have a few ideas I’m toying with. But that won’t be done for a long while. Don’t look for that post any time soon.

Now moving onto my entertainment center. Isn’t she gorgeous?

Last 12 Months - 3479

I couldn’t have been more proud and impressed with myself than I was after those boards went up! I am in love!

Wondering how I did this? Wanting to do this with an area in your own house? Well here… let me fill you in on the know-how!

I purchased:

(9) 1x6x8′ Pine boards from Home Depot.
(1) Sample paint of Herbal Tea {green}
(1) Sample paint of Beach Towel {blue}

What I also needed, but already had in my garage was:

Minwax Dark Walnut Stain
Target Diaper Cloths, White
Orbit Sander
Chip Brushes
Chop Saw
Nails
Some manly muscles!

So I started by chopping the boards to length with the chop saw. I needed 7 boards at 7′ long. The last board, I needed 8- 2 ft boards, totaling the 2 remaining boards. The reason for the 2 ft boards is because there is a giant hole in the middle of the entertainment center for the wall mount to hold the TV {because as you can see in the picture below, the mount is connected to the wall… not the entertainment center}. On either side of said hole, is 2 feet to the edge. Make sense? Good.

IMG_0080

Once that was done, I started painting with the chip brushes, beginning with the lightest color paint first. The green.

IMG_6476

I literally slopped it on. But in a very thin coat. A dry brush basically. I dabbed the ends of the brush in, got most of the paint off the brush, and then brushed it on the boards. Repeated until it was covered. With this process, you are still able to see the knots and grain of the wood thru the paint.

Last 12 Months - 3460

Once the green is on, you repeat that entire process with the blue.

IMG_6477

Isn’t a beautiful turquoise color? Perfect. That’s what I was going for.

Last 12 Months - 3463

Sorry, this picture is kinda blurry, did not realize that until just now…}

Last 12 Months - 3464

Then, I sanded most of it off. Yup. You read that correctly. I used my orbit sander and sanded it back down to the wood grain.

Last 12 Months - 3469

It was glorious.

There were some boards I was absolutely in love with. Some I was nervous about. And some I thought were going to turn out disastrous. You never know. You can’t keep them all the same obviously.

But then it was time to stain. And turns out, staining is my new favorite thing! I’ve always heard how awful and dreadful it was… but I personally found it fulfilling… maybe because it was bringing my vision to life? Who knows… maybe because I’m just weird. My only suggestion… get gloves. Or your hands look like you just walked out of a coal mine, for a long time.

Last 12 Months - 3488

Last 12 Months - 3470

I did one board at a time. Literally slapped stain on the entire board, then took a white, diaper cloth and wiped it all back off. Now, I did quite a few practice rounds and tried a couple techniques. I experimented with leaving the stain on for 5 minutes or longer and then did the opposite and wiped it off immediately. And I found that it doesn’t really make a difference with this stain color choice. But I did note with each sample I created {when wiping off immediately}, the stain turned out a different color for each sample, even though I was leaving it on the same amount of time. But I loved that! I loved the un-perfection in this perfect piece of furniture.

Then, it was time to hang my boards. The moment of truth. My daddy-o and cousin Travis were huge helpers. The day Jason was to come home felt like the final day of a House Crasher episode.. ya know the Crasher series on the DIY network? Where it comes down to the wire in the last few hours and everyone is scrambling to get things done before the home owners come home??? Ya. That was us.

But they were my Rustic-Board-Hangers. Ya… that’s a thing.

Last 12 Months - 3473

But just a friendly reminder… this was the black wall before the new planks… the wall that showed every imperfection in the construction… and my husband even did a great job building this thing!

Last 12 Months - 3486

One board at a time… I chose which board was next. They would pick it up and nail it in… And the process would continue. As I watched it come together, my heart leaped! I couldn’t have been happier!

The above image makes the room look so tiny… but I promise it’s not as tiny as it seems here!

Last 12 Months - 3477

Last 12 Months - 3478

It ties so much together! The new wall color, the other gray wall. The coral wall. The newly painted mirror, my picture frames… Everything! It was perfect. Even my babes were perfect… they didn’t even notice anything was going on around them. Just played with each other. Good girls.

Last 12 Months - 3482

Every time I would walk into the living room, I would stop and just observe. What a difference an entertainment center can make! As I mentioned in my other post, I loved the construction, my husband did an amazing job, and the storage! It’s what I wanted… but my design element was awful. {Hey, gimme a break, I’m learning as I go here.} And now that I know what style I’m wanting for this house, it comes together much easier.

Last 12 Months - 3479

Next step is the 3 long and skinny compartments just under the plank wall. Where the receiver, Blu-ray player, internet modem, etc is all located. Time to get those bad boys hidden because my twinnies are pulling themselves up and this current set up is just not going to work!

Stay tuned, because it’s almost done! :)  In the mean time, here’s a sneak peak!!

Until then, Loves and Toodle-o’s!!!

Happy New Year!

So how was everyone’s Christmas? Our family had an amazing time. We had multiple Christmas’s and our children are SPOILED! So am I for that matter. It’s so fun watching all the kids open their gifts. That’s my favorite part of Christmas is the giving and the children. And of course seeing family we don’t get to see quite as often.

I got a lot of things for Christmas that I asked for. Including some cool gear for snappin’ some photos, a work out bench, a new Kindle, & some tennis shoes!

One of the things I have been asking for {for the last few years actually} is a scroll saw.  I asked for the Ryobi Scroll Saw which would work fine for the random projects I have floating in my head!

But instead, my parents hooked me up with an industrial, beast of scroll saw! Complete with a giant motor and huge stand! This thing is awesome sauce! It’s still at my parents so I don’t have a picture of it yet, but once it’s in my grubby little hands, I’ll be sure to show you!

Apparently it was sitting at someone’s house {whom they knew?} and had not been used, just taking up a lot of space. So they gave my parents a super awesome deal, & well, the rest is history!

I could seriously build a house with this thing! Now that I can do so much more than a few tiny projects, my mind is really, really spinning with some cool thoughts… just need to get them down on paper some where…

Which reminds me, I have started probably 10 notebooks for project thoughts… but I always misplace them and start a new… some day I’m going to find that stash…

But anyways. Back to the point of this post.

HAPPYNEWYEAR

cheers

I hope the Christmas hustle & bustle has settled down a bit and I hope you have managed to make room for all your new goodies {we are yet to be completed with that part}.

Have you thought of new resolutions? Are you even a new resolution-er? Are they work related or personal goals? Maybe you want to aspire to do something that you have never done before? Become a healthier you and push yourself to limits you never thought possible? These are where my goals are headed.

I’m not typically a new year’s resolution gal. Usually mine are your typical ‘lose weight‘ resolution. But, this year, I have a few with actual details. Not many, but enough to keep me working through out the 2015 calendar year.

With this past year, we had a lot of really high ups and some pretty steep downs in all different areas so I have to say, I’m excited to start fresh. Maybe just a normal year… with not too much excitement? Na. That’s not how we do things ’round here.

A) We’ll start boring. Yes to lose weight. I want to lose 80 lbs in a full year. Difficult, but not impossible. I asked for a weight bench {for Christmas} so I could start doing different exercises with that, including free weights. I love lifting. It’s the cardio that I’m not such a fan for. With the holidays and the busy season, I got hit hard and exercising just took to the back burner. At first I tried to fight it and worked hard at trying to work it in. But it never worked and it made me feel even more guilty and more of a failure than I would have if I would have just said, ya know, you’re not meeting your goals anymore anyway, let’s just put this on pause. Come the new year, you’ll see a new me. I bought Chris Powell’s book Choose To Lose and I’m about 37% done. {Kindle’s, turn out, don’t give page numbers, just percentages… which I’m not a fan of, but I can deal}. It’s such a good explanation of everything and he dumbs everything down for me. So much of it makes sense now. He is such a huge inspiration and I love his show. In fact, my whole week was just off if they post-poned his show for any reason. I can’t wait to get going again. So look for that series after the first of the year.

B) I want to teach my children to be more giving & to inspire them to show the path to their peers. Teach them that receiving is not everything & that giving has so much more fulfillment. Giving is what brings out the best in people. I feel this is important for our children to learn. The world is full of so much hate and I, as a parent, need to teach them how much good they are capable of, regardless of the situations. To look for the good in the bad. To want to make someone smile just because. To help restore everyone’s faith in humanity. So a big goal of mine is teach my children to give.

C) Blog at least twice a week. Monday and Thursday. I feel that for right now, is a good number. If I can fit more in, then great. But I won’t feel like such a failure if I can’t. To have a schedule is exactly what I need to get my life organized. And that’s part of this… I need a blogging calendar to help me organize my thoughts and posts. So I’ll be looking for one {on Pinterest} that fits my needs. I’m hoping if I can keep up my blogging schedule, I’ll be able to move my blog to the next level by end of year. But we’ll just have to see :)

D) Become a better photographer and start taking myself seriously. I would really like to further my skills but my doubts in myself are holding me back. I want to be able to contribute more financially to my family and I really want to do that with photography.

E) And last, but not least. To become a better person myself, in addition to becoming a healthier me. It may come as a shock to you, but I have my faults as well. {Please… please, settle down… I know, but stop with the surprised faces.} I have so many angles that I would love to work on. Including being quick to judge, being more thoughtful, and being a better wife and mother. Which are the two main areas of focus for me.

So there you have it, my 2015 goals. They will be work… but all for the better. For the much better.

I hope you all keep safe tonight and have DD’s!!!

Have fun smoochin your one and only at midnight! Whether that be your significant other or your best friend!! :)

Rustic Glam: Wall Paint

Back when we moved into our house in 2012, it was stuck in 1990. The year it was built. Everything was added in when it was originally installed and never changed again. And I knew that when we bought the house. It has built in blow dryers for crying out loud…. ya. It was that awesome.

But we loved the bones of the place. The giant kitchen, bedroom suite, and the almost acre was what sold us on this place. But we knew we would have to update most everything eventually. The good news? It was all livable. Everything worked, it’s just everything was old and blue. They really liked blue… {Yes those are blue counter-tops}

IMG_3792

IMG_3795

IMG_3800

IMG_3804

So when we moved in, we instantly took the built in’s down. It was too much. Even if we used them, it would make this place feel so cluttered. And the space they had for the tv fit an old boob tube that weighed as much as a small child. So we took them out carefully, and re-installed them in the garage for storage. Which worked perfect!

IMG_3757

The walls were also nasty. Everything was painted white except one random wall in the formal living room and the closet wall when you walked in. And those white walls showed everything from the last 22 years. So we decided step one to a homier home was to paint. I love the cool neutrals such as gray, so that’s what color we picked for the main walls. But I was dead set on red as an accent color wall in the living room. Since our living room and kitchen share walls with no breaks in between, I wanted a normal accent color that works well with kitchens.

IMG_3779

And I found this post from my favorite bloggers ever and decided that would be fun for the accent wall. I thought having a cool design in high gloss over the flat paint would make the space, especially with the red. So I bought a can of flat red paint, and a small can of high gloss in the same color.

We painted the red… and I was just not in love. At all. It may have been the flat paint, or the red, or the dungeon-y feel. But in all honestly, I hated it. And since I knew I was going to eventually paint it again, I decided to not follow through with the gloss paint. It may have looked a little bit better, but I still don’t think it would have taken me to my happy place.

It became even worse when we added the entertainment center that my husband built {I designed}. It was a shiny black {worst of my ideas yet: shows every handprint and spec of dust ever!} on top of the dark red, and it made the room seem so dark and elongated. I just was not satisfied. And ever since, I had an itch to change it.

IMG_0092

I really, originally, wanted to turn the red accent wall to just another gray wall. But no one liked that idea. Everyone turned me down. And I also wanted to take out that entertainment center and replace it with something else. But that was soooo much work & money, and not to mention, Jason put soooo much time & effort into it and he did a great job! My design just wasn’t what I thought it would be… So I was really struggling with the idea of just tearing it down. And besides, I couldn’t come up with anything that I wanted to replace it with.

But. Between myself and a few other peeps, we have come up with a new solution. A solution that involves a very low budget and far less work. New and cheap and easy. I’ll take it!

Part of my problem was I was “updating” things in the house without a real idea of how I wanted the end result to look like. I didn’t take a glimpse at the bigger picture. So after some serious thinking and researching, I decided I wanted to go with a Rustic Glam style. I love, love, love the feel of Rustic Glam. The colors, the decor, the style. It makes a house feel like a home but welcomes the rustic accents perfectly.

So first step was of course paint. I started with really wanting some sort of turquoise as the accent wall. I found this picture as an inspiration:

IMG_5336

And I was hooked. So once again, I was dead set on this said color. My cousin had suggested a coral, and I quickly dismissed it. I’m on a turquoise kick and I just thought it would be perfect.

So, I stopped in at Lowes, grabbed a few paint samples, and once Jason went to bed {to avoid any disagreements :)}, I plopped those bad boys up on the wall. Because like my cousin said, if I put those samples up on the wall, then I have to do something with it, otherwise I would never force myself to cover that red wall of gloomy-ness.

IMG_5354

IMG_5355

I took a step back and admired the three different colors. And I wasn’t in my happy place with any of them.

IMG_5360

The next morning, Jason walked into the kitchen and living area, and was not so thrilled. :) Good thing that man loves me…. The things I get us into… you would not believe.

If I recall correctly, his words were “What the hell is that?!” Just paint colors hunny, now pick your favorite.

I took the vote from all my daycare kids’ parents, all my school age kids, and even friends and family via the above picture message.

But even after listening to responses and opinions, I still felt absolutely no tug for any of them. And that miserable ache was starting to settle into my stomach, that same feeling I had after we painted the red.

And then. Then I saw it. A photographer had posted a newborn baby she photographed that was laying on a turquoise blanket and had a coral headband, and it went together perfectly! I fell in love and knew my cousin was right. {I tried like hell to find the picture again so I could show you… but with zero success} So I text Bethy right away and told her I changed my mind and that she was right.

Coral it was.

I got on the Sherwin Williams Visualizer , searched coral and it suggested the color Coral Reef. I instantly knew that was the color I wanted. It looked perfect against the gray that was already on my walls, and looked okay with the black entertainment center (which will also be getting a face-lift soon).

IMG_5408

So that day, I went to Lowes with my cousin so I could get her military discount, got a gallon of Coral Reef, and we went to work.

Beth does the trim… and will probably have a permanent job here when it comes to painting. Lord knows I am not patient enough. I can mural up almost any design and roll the heck outta those walls… but trim? Hell no. I get paint on every thing in close proximity to what I’m supposed to be painting. But Beth is amaze balls and doesn’t even need tape!! But I can hardly watch her do it… she moves so slow because she’s so careful… and I just want to take her brush and do it for her… but then we’d end up back at square 1.

And I love how it turned out! It seems so much homier than that damn red!

Coral&Mirror-1

Coral&Mirror-2

Eh. Look at all those finger prints and smudges. It’s got to go, pronto!

Coral&Mirror-3

Coral&Mirror-8

What’s even better??? Shortly after, I received an email from Sherwin Williams telling me the color of the new year 2015 is…. drum roll please…. Coral Reef!!!!

IMG_5481

Boom.

We’re just that good over here.

mirror

Now that the gloomy red is gone, now is this giant mirror’s turn.

Step 3: the entertainment center. (After the New Year)

It’s gonna be awesome sauce!

Stay tuned!!

Love and Toodle-os!

Work Out Week Two

Well, our second week of Kicking Fat’s Ass has ended and a lot of sweat had been shed. I have already posted about the first half of the week, but let’s talk about the second half, shall we?

Last Thursday was bike day, so we got up at 5 am, met at 5:20-ish and rode for about 10 miles. But damn. I was seriously struggling. I felt like with every bike ride it was getting harder and harder. My gears weren’t shifting and hadn’t for awhile. So I was going 10 miles on gear 2 or 3. I was peddling as fast or faster than Beth, and was going half the speed. And I didn’t realize how bad my bike was until today {which I’ll explain soon} I was a giant sweat ball when I got home. As if I had ran a marathon. And I hadn’t even come close.

IMG_3817

See what I mean? I feel like it took forever to go anywhere? I was working my ass off just trying to get to 10 mph!

Although the sun and fog were so gorgeous that morning I had to stop and take a picture!

IMG_3816

That evening, I decided to take my bike to Beth’s house. Beth and Travis have a roomie who works at a bike shop and actually works on bicycles! So I decided to have him just take a look and see what he could do. So I rode my bike to their house and Beth brought me home. Wasn’t much of a workout like I thought it would be. Only 2.97 miles. But I suppose, I got almost 13 miles in that day.

Friday was weight-in day. Which I was so nervous for. I had put in the work. All that my schedule would allow. Literally, every free moment I could muster, I tried fitting something in. I also woke up sicker than a damn dog that day. My throat hurt so incredibly bad I couldn’t swallow or talk. So I immediately text Beth at 4:30 that I wasn’t going to the gym. I was in so much pain. And it wasn’t work out pain.

I still decided to weigh in. I went potty (need all the help I can get) and hopped on the scale. Ready…?

1 lousy pound. That’s all I lost. Which I guess is at least in the right direction. but I was at the least, hoping for a 2 or 3.

And after that weight in, I just wanted to give up. My heart dropped and I just kept saying, if this is how my weight loss journey is going to be, why am I doing all this work? I was already putting so much time into this… time that I could be spending with my family. I’m eating way better than I have ever done while trying to lose weight. And exercising almost daily, sometimes twice in a day! So why continue for a 1 lb weight loss a week?

But then something clicked. Every time I have ever tried losing weight, I never put this much effort into it and I quit after the first sign of struggle. Which is why I am as heavy as I am now. This is where quitting has gotten me. Huge.

I want to look how I used to 11 years ago. I want to be that MILF that everyone has to do a double take at. I want to feel great and comfortable in my own skin and clothes. I want to be able to play with my kids without being winded after a couple minutes, or worse, watching them from a bench off on the side. I want to be able to keep up with my kids.

And I can’t do that quitting. That’s all I have ever done. It has taken me 11 years to put on the 70 lbs… I need to face facts and realize the 60-80 lbs I want to lose won’t come off in a few short months. I don’t have the luxury of working out for 10 hours a day or even able to spend money on a ton of extra healthy food that the whole family won’t eat. I have to work out when I can and keep the meals simple and cheap.

And it is what it is. So the sooner I face that, the better off I’ll be.

After my little pep talk, I went back to sleep and slept until Jason came home. Only waking up to feed the twins. I literally left Broden in charge of Kensli. But she for the most part snuggled with me and watched movies all day. {See, she can be sweet!}

After Jason came home, I went to the doctor to make sure I didn’t need medication, which thank goodness it wasn’t anything that required that. Came home, sat my ass back down on the couch, finally ate something other than saltine crackers, and went to bed shortly after that.

Saturday, I woke up feeling much better! My throat was still sore, but I could at least talk and swallow! So I woke up at 7, got ready to meet my cousin Jayme and a few of her friends for a walk around Gray’s Lake, and helped with the twinnies which caused me to be late. Still got there about 8:15 am.

We briskly walked around the lake, which was just over 2 miles. We ran a little… but damn. I am just not a runner. No matter how hard I try. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still attempting the Couch to 5k training. But it’s going to be a long haul.  Afterwards, we all met at Smokey Row coffee house, had a healthy breakfast sandwich which consisted of wheat toast, egg, ham, and a slice of cheese with an iced tea. We chit chatted a bit and headed on our merry way. It was nice to get some exercise in on a Saturday morning and get it out of the way.

But today. TODAY was the grand daddy of my exercising this week. Uncle Steve, Aunt Missy, Bethy, and I went on a 26 mile bike ride from Johnston to Gray’s Lake and back! And let me tell you, after Travis and Beth’s roomie fixed my gears and Uncle Steve aired up my tires… it was like a whole new bike!!!! I was more exhausted after our 10 mile bike rides in the morning than I was today after 26 miles. So thank you to Shaun and Uncle Steve for fixing my bicycle :)greatly appreciate it!

There were some tough spots, and the hills kicked my ass as you can imagine, but all in all, I feel like I did really well! I didn’t die, so that was a good start.

Although, my phone died with just a little over 4 miles left, but here were my stats at the point my phone died.

IMG_3847

But since my phone died, I wanted a screen shot of Uncle Steve’s phone since it had the full bike ride mapped out with the full mileage that we biked for. So this is the screen shot of his:

IMG_3846

We did stop on our way back downtown to have a small lunch where I had a grilled chicken salad and ice tea. It was quite delicious.

So I feel good about today. I think next weekend, since Jason is leaving for a week on vaca, Beth and I are going to take the girls to Gray’s Lake again… or somewhere… and walk it. But until then, we’ll be busting our asses all week.

Until next time Tipsy Sippy friends!

Love and Toodle’os!

Weekend Relaxation with Spider-Man

For the first time in a loooong time, we finally had a weekend with no plans. And it was amaze-balls. We basically did nothing. Yes, I could have cleaned, gone grocery shopping, really got organized, did some chores around here that need to be done. But damn it, we haven’t had a weekend with nothing to do in months. And I mean, long before the twins were born.

And frankly. I wanted to do tidily squat. So I did just that. I did want I wanted to.

I took Friday off to have a ‘Me’ day. Most people who work a ‘normal’ job, as in, not an in-home daycare, have the luxury of having paid sick time or vacation time and can take off at last minute for whatever reason they choose. I, on the other hand, have 5 paid days. If I’m sick or have an emergency pop up and have to close that day, my parents don’t have to pay. But if I plan a day off two weeks ahead of time, it is considered a vacation day. {Although next year, I’m changing my 5 days to 10. I think that’s fair, and I never close for any reason- heads up parents!}

But on the other hand, it’s not fair to my parents who depend on me to watch their children if I am constantly closing. I’ve had a few sitters who always had something going on or someone was always sick, plus we had to pay them for that day regardless if they closed, and we had to find a new sitter for the day at last minute and pay them. And I hated it. And I will not make my parents go through the same thing. They pay me to watch their children, and I will do just that. I literally have to be on my death bed before I’ll close.

Whoa. I just went way off topic.

Back to Friday.

I had a hair appointment at 11 until 1:30. I would normally tell you that I love it, however, I haven’t gotten ready and done my hair yet… sooooo I don’t know. It’s not exactly what I wanted, but nothing that I haven’t had before, so I’m sure it looks great! And afterwards, I met my cousin cousin’s cousin {on the other side}Katie, for Mexican and Margs. I’m pretty sure this girl loves Mexican and Margs as much as I do… and I am not over exaggerating! She is sooo hilarious, I could talk to her for hours! We just click, ya know what I mean?

IMG_3760

Then that evening, Brother and his fiancé, Megan, came over! I may have already been somewhat tipsy from Mexican prior! We had so much fun! We hung out, watched movies, and played games! I feel like I didn’t do so well at the games buuuut…. Oh well!

Saturday, we were going to go to the parade here in Ankeny, however, we realized we left all our stuff in the Yukon at the In-laws house. *Rewind* See, we went to their house last Wednesday and they looked at the Yukon because I knew something was wrong, and I was pretty sure it was a wheel bearing going out. {For the record, I was right!!} So he kept it so he could fix it for us and we took their vehicle home that day. But when we were switching stuff out, we forgot to take out the stroller, blankets, and the lounge chairs… basically all the parade stuff we own. So instead, we didn’t say anything to Kensli and went to the in-laws since the Yukon was fixed.

And we literally lounged all day there. Took naps. Cuddled babies. Chit chatted with Marge and Aunt Jean. Came home and lounged some more.

{Varah snoooooooozing away!}

IMG_3761

It was awesome-sauce!

Then there was today… a quite interesting day. Jason let me sleep in and even though I had woken up about 8, I just laid in bed. Kensli didn’t bother me… Jason had the twiners downstairs. And I just enjoyed my alone time scrolling my phone under the covers.

Finally, I came down and Jason had made some awesome egg and bacon breakfast sandwiches.

I saw this at some point in the morning and just wanted to squeeze them! But I settled for a picture instead.

IMG_3774

And then Kensli asked me where her Halloween costume was. Her Spiderman costume. And boy she was not going to drop it either.

So, from about 9:30 am to 11 at night… Kensli was either Spider-Woman or Spider-Man Kensli.

IMG_3762

At first, she was happy with just the mask. So she looked quite interesting with her Spider-Man mask and Ariel PJs. And she was showing me how Spider-Man shoots the web. Oh this child.

IMG_3766

IMG_3768

Then she wanted to hold Zuri because she wanted to show how strong she was. Zuri looks less than impressed.

Then she wanted to help me move all the boxes up to the twins room and help me re-organize the clothes and box up the too-small outfits.

IMG_3769

IMG_3775

I’m not really sure she ‘helped’ much. Luckily she had to eat during that time, which gave me some time to really get stuff done.

Then after that was done she was all about Spider-Man giving mommy hugs. I was a-ok with that!

IMG_3772

I made her clean her room afterwards, and boy was she not wanting to do that. She was doing anything and everything to stall. Including wanting to take pictures with mommy and some awesome dance moves. Haha!

 IMG_3776

IMG_3778

IMG_3779

IMG_3780

{I’m going to have to figure out how to post movies on here… it won’t show when I load it on here :(}

After cleaning her room, it was nap time. And yes, she wore that to bed. But just before nap time, she said “Mommy, I am hot.” Well duh child. You are wearing a fall costume. With fake muscles. Even warmer.

During nap time, my mom and dad stopped by to take a break from their kitchen remodel and to see all of us kids… mostly the grand kids, but really all of us. :)

And let me tell you, they were very impressed with how Spider-Man saves the day!

IMG_3784

IMG_3786

Then once they left, we just sat around some more waiting for the fireworks to start… at 10 Pm.

Let me tell you, when she was sitting still watching movies on the couch.. I had to constantly do a double take looking at her because I kept thinking it was a toy! Ha, then I would remember, “Oh ya, she’s in her costume…”

IMG_3773

IMG_3795

Then, Jason decided to water the garden. And Kensli loves the garden. It’s dirt. That’s why she loves it. Because it gives her an okay to play in it. So when Jason said he was going out to water the garden, she leaped off the couch and went flying to the back door! Spider-Man was super pumped to save the garden’s day!

IMG_3787

IMG_3789

IMG_3792

IMG_3793

She’s definitely putting those Spider-Man muscles to good use!

Haha!

Oh this Spider-Man thing just cracked me up all day long!

Then finally it was time to leave for the Fireworks. My phone died there but got a before pic!

IMG_3798

Yes, we walked there and back! It felt good! And it wasn’t hot at all, but boy were the bugs out… Eck!

We made it back about 11, and by the time we got four kids ready for bed and in bed, it was about 11:30-11:45. We were slightly tired.

And that was our very non-busy weekend that we all loved!

Tonight, I’m hoping to do my C25K workout, maybe a walk with the family, and then headed to the gym at about 8. Somehow, we’ll get supper in there somewhere…

July 4th Weekend

Happy {late} Birthday America!

IMG_3590

How did you celebrate the most famous birthday of all? I tell you what, I need a day just to recover from the 3 day weekend… phew. But July 4th is my favorite holiday of all! No stress from purchasing presents for people and guessing what they really want that’s in your extremely small budget. No running to 8000 houses in a matter of two days. No figuring out how to fit the 100 new toys your children got into their already over-stuffed bedroom. Just fun, family, and fireworks. And alcohol.

IMG_3584 IMG_3583

{Proof my twins aren’t always sleeping and smiles}

I love fireworks, always have. But what I love even more now, is watching my children watch the fireworks. And seeing their love for the show is as much as what mine is. I. Love. It.

Although, we had 3 late nights in a row. Literally, the kids were up tip at least midnight Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We finally got home Sunday around 8:30 and finally got to just sit down.

{And PS. Some of these pics are with my cell phone… so clearly not near as good of pictures. Buuuuut still cute enough to share :)}

It started Thursday night for us. My Grandma, Aunt Tammy, Uncle Todd, Jacob, and Jordan all stopped by at the daycare to come say hello since they were finally in town, and they wanted to see the twins for the first time! Well, they gave Kensli a new 4th of July dress and she was super stoked to wear it for fireworks! She looked so adorable.. like a little big person!

IMG_3552

We took the kids to Prairie Meadows to meet up with some friends and to watch the fireworks. We all had an amazing time. We got there about 7 pm, so we got to chill for a good 3 hours before the fireworks started. But it was worth it. Us adults got to chat and watch the babies while the big kids got to run around and do whatever big kids do.

And the fireworks were soooo awesome! It was an excellent show. Kensli sat in my lap during the light show and just was in awe. I had more fun watching her than the fireworks… and fireworks are my favorite. After each firework, she would scream “This is so cool!” or “Mom, that was butiful!” or “Mommy, I love that one”.

IMG_3574

She did not want to take the above picture. Can you tell?

IMG_3579

Even the twins watched! Boy were they wide eyed as they listened to the Booms and giant bright lights! It was too cute. And of course, hanging with my best bud and her fam is always a treat. Living 45 minutes apart makes it some-what difficult to get together. And she works nights and weekends and daycare during the week. With 4 children. A very busy family. So I take advantage of any oppurtunity  that presents itself that we all can hang together.

IMG_3575

IMG_3578

IMG_3581

It took an hour to get out of the damn place though. Eh. Traffic sucks. And of course, on the side of the building we were parked at, they decided to have one ways only. But of course, had no signs, no traffic conductors, no cones, no nothing to let drivers know that. So it was just chaotic.  However, we did make it home at midnight….

And you can see how much fun they had:

Friday was the bomb digity! My Aunt Pam and Uncle Scott have a July 4th party every year. And we go every year. Because it’s awesome sauce!  Uncle Todd, Aunt Tammy, Jacob, and Jordan all come into town, and my whole Campbell’s side of the family get’s together.

All my family Jessica and Brett’s family on the other side also are there! {We all grew up together and just consider each other cousins. I even call their Grandma J ‘Grandma’.} Everyone loves getting together and just wants to have fun and holy cow is fun had by all. And food. Fun and food. And alcohol. Fun, food, and alcohol.

There is always a giant slip ‘n slide, baseball, water balloon games, and squirt guns. Water usually gets everywhere. But it’s cool. There are only a few rules. A) Don’t hit great grandma’s. {This was made by a great-grandma} B) Don’t hit anyone holding a baby C) No water in the house. Seems pretty fair right? Fair and simple. Easy for kids to remember… including the drunk big kids.

Jason and I {and the kids} stayed there with Scott and Pam’s kids Brett and Jess, along with their significant others Emily and Nate. As people started high tailin’ it outta there… we all kept the party going. But don’t worry… I’m sure we were super entertaining… {Sorry Aunt Pam and Uncle Scott}

Ha! I wasn’t going to put that last one in there, but it cracks me up every time I look at it… and it’s my blog. So. Sorry Jess and Nate :) Love you both!

Nate was determined to do some fire crackers and Broden was right there with him. They were like two kids waking up on Christmas Day. Hilarious!

The kids were out as soon as we got in the car. I believe we left about 10:30-11ish. So by the time we got home and kids in bed; it turned into another midnight night. But so worth it.

Saturday, we all kinda slumped around and did nothing. Until about 3. Then we started getting around to head to Kelley and Jared’s in Indianola. Us girls got food ready and took care of the tiny humans. While the men took the two boys {Broden and her son Trenton} fishing about a mile or so away. Trenton was the only one catching anything until…. Until Broden caught a giant snapping turtle!! Saaaaay whaaaaa! How scary! Can you imagine going in to lift the ‘fish’ out of the water and then HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! Something just snapped at you!!!!!!

Then they came home, we all ate some delicious steak and veggies, and started a bonfire! Seriously. We had a bonfire in July. And we were cold and sitting close to the flames. Since when are bonfires comfortable in July? Oh well, I love bonfires so it was glorious! I was extremely tired from the two nights before, and mix that with a little bit of alcohol and I may have fallen asleep at the fire.

Sunday morning, the Campbell’s had a wedding shower for my brother’s fiancé, Megan. It worked out perfect because everyone was in town! It was so nice! And I loved hearing about everyone’s first kiss :) {You can only imagine all the juicy details with all those first kisses}

After the shower, Jessica and I decided to go for some cheese dip and Margs… and just chit chat and bullshit. It was long over due! {Seriously, we need to get together more often Jessica!} But it was soooo much fun! And turns out… a waiter that used to work at Jason’s and I’s mexican restaurant here in town, now works at the one Jess took me too… ya. He asked immediately “Pitcher of margaritas?”

… Damn it…  {Hang head in shame} “Yes please.”

Then Sunday evening we headed over to my Grandma Campbell’s to say good-bye to the Rastello family and order pizza. I hate saying good-bye to them… I really wish they lived closer to us or just here in Iowa would be fantastic! But it sure makes it fun catching up and seeing them when they are here. We try to make every second count!

And that’s a wrap on my weekend! I hope you had an eventful and super fun 3 day weekend!

Love and Toodle’os!

So Excited for my New Brand!!!

There is no more confusion!

No more typing mamastipsysippy.com and seeing a giant Makeover Momma in the header! I loved the other header… but it was time for it to go.

M.O.M.screenprint

It’s been a long time coming. I saved for awhile, and then made some monthly payments to the wonderful Elsa of EMR Design Studio. Seriously… she’s awesome-sauce. She has been so amazing. She always answered all my questions… even the stupid ones. And helped me with some things outside of the website design also.

jydqvte

She does amazing work, all her revisions to my header were awesome and it was so hard for me to decide. And considering I had no idea what I was really looking for, think she nailed it!

Seriously, if she lived in Iowa, I bet we would be life-long friends. Another friend to enjoy a Marg with :)

{And ya wanna know a secret? I really wanted to name one of the twins Elsa… but the hubs didn’t want it, and then we found out 1 of the 2 main characters in Frozen was named Elsa anyway… so I agreed to let it go…. hahaha… get it? Let it go? The song from Frozen? Oh, you do. Ok, good…}

I’m super excited about moving forward with my new brand. It feels so much more… me. The chalkboard represents the DIY part of me that I’ll show every once in a while, all with a modern/edgy design with it. And did you note the { } on the chalkboard???? Seriously… my favorite two keys on a keyboard.

Don’t ask.

So that’s all for now :)  Just super-duper excited about the new changes! And you best be excited as well… because it’s staying like that for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. :)

Toodle-o’s and Love!
